Madrid´s Centro Norte hotel hosted the 'Get Together’ program this past weekend, an activity developed by FIBA Europe´s Youth Commission to study the continent´s youth competitions. This year the event was organized by the Sports Area of the Spanish Basketball Federation, led by its Sports Director, Ángel Palmi and coordinated in its Technical Cabinet by Daniel Sainz. The program´s inauguration took place on Saturday morning with the presence of Nar Zanolin, FIBA Europe´s Secretary General; Asterios Zois, Youth Commission President; Juan Martin Caño, FEB´s Vicepresident; and Alberto Gómez, member of the aforementioned commission.
Over the weekend, experienced members of the FEB´s Sports Area such as José Silva -event coordinator-, Juan Antonio Orenga, Manuel Aller, Francisco Rodríguez, Josep Alemany, Ramón Jordana and Ana Junyer, explained the structure of the FEB Method, a model that has consolidated Spain as Europe´s leading nation in terms of youth competitions, an achievement made through different activities like ‘The Values of Basketball’, ‘Tribasket’, the ‘Individualized Tracking Comission’ or the ‘Talent Detection Program’, among others.
Regarding the importance of a basketball education at an early age, José Luis Sáez, President of the FEB, had previously stated that “the formula of the FEB Method in the last years has given us both sport success and personal satisfaction, because our projects don’t finish on the court; our concept of basketball also offers a complete education based on values like compromise, teamwork and friendship”.
While Nar Zanolin said that “it´s no surprise that the teams that finished near the top of the podium in Poland this September are the same teams that regularly take home medals at youth competitions”, Ángel Palmi highlighted “the relevance of working with the kids from the beginning so they end up being part of the basketball family, either as players or as grown-ups to whom basketball plays an important part in their lives”.
The event was an organizational success and a great opportunity for the members of several European Federations to get to know the basketball method used by the Spanish Federation to become the top European country in youth competitions.
