11/19/2009 - 2:12 PM
On Wednesday Nov. 18th Alfonso Seoane, General Director of the FEB Sociocultural Foundation, handed Hassam Chalaoui, IRT Club President, the sports equipment to be used this season by more than 400 children who are currently enrolled in the school.
Seoane recognized the work of the current Moroccan champions (men and women) with the delivery of a Spanish National Team jersey signed by the current World and European champions. Prior to that, representatives of both parties laid the groundwork for new ways of collaboration, based on an initiative that will use the presence of FEB coaches in the basketball clinics that will be organized this season.
Alfonso Seoane explained that the second edition of the Basketball School "means the consolidation of an international cooperation program that´s already taking place and that will be significantly improved by the presence of the Foundation in more countries that belong to the African continent".
The Sociocultural Basketball Foundation of the Spanish Basketball Federation will open the second edition of its Basketball School on Wednesday in Tangier (Morocco). The Basketball Club is a sports and social club created by the FEB along with the club IRT, the current Moroccan champions. The Foundation will be represented by its general director, Alfonso Seoane.
The school was created on 27 May 2008 and nowadays has a total of 550 children. It was the first program of the Foundation tied to international cooperation as it appears in its statutes. From an early stage the goal of the Foundation with this program has been to develop and improve the infrastructures of the club IRT over the first year, as well as to offer guidance to the participants, in addition to help to organize the Moroccan team by teaching the methods used by the FEB in the present days.
One of the goals achieved over this first year has been the preparation of the coaches who are now in charge of the Foundation School. Also, and besides the technical and tactical guidance for the current members of the IRT, two courses for coaches whose certification have been approved by the Moroccan Federation of Basketball, were jointly organized over the past year. This initiative was made possible through the agreement signed by the president of the FEB with his Moroccan counterpart in the act of foundation of the school. These courses have also been open to participation by other Moroccan coaches outside the project.
