On November 10th the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, José Luis Sáez, met in Rome with the president of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP), Dino Meneghin, in order to reinforce the relations between both federations and to establish a common ground for the development of European and global basketball.
Sáez and Meneghin analyzed together the current situation of European basketball and its future to lay the foundations for a strategical partnership between FEB and FIP. Both presidents talked about possible common projects within the sports area and the promotion of social issues through basketball.
In this sense, the president of the FEB offered his homologue a partnership training and for the development of an Italian bid to organize the 2013 FIBA Men’s EuroBasket Championship that the FIP could announce in the future. “Our whole experience as organizers of the EuroBasket 2007 and other recent international events will be at the disposal of Meneghin and the FIP”, Sáez said.
“Italy has always been a reference for Spanish basketball; therefore, working together in the same direction is very important for us. European basketball needs Italian basketball to be strong in order to be stronger”.
“Spain and Italy were opponents a few months ago in the election race to host the 2014 FIBA World Championship, but we didn’t lose our friendship”, said the president of the FEB.
